According to today’s Figaro, the latest TNS-Sofres-Unilog polling puts the latest number of poll results as 51 percent for Nicolas Sarkozy and 49 percent for Segolene Royal. That’s after divvying up the spoils from the first round. TNS-Sofres-Unilog is predicting a very close vote - which Paris Loguers have already expected! “Even when you know - you never know.”

Segolene Royal’s big opportunity to sway the French public will be during the two hours of televised debate - and if she really wants to win this vote - she’ll have to convince French people that not only can she help create a climate for new jobs - but also an example to the world of a ‘peace-loving, nonviolent’ environment. That could be an enticing image.

The televised debate will be the make or break moment for gaining those addtional last minute votes. The debate will be televised May 2nd. It will be a ‘classic’ debate according to Le Figaro, meaning the candidates will sit across from one another as opposed to the side-by-side, standing at podiums aka ‘American style’.
